Empowering Parents From the Start

The Palekana Parent & Me Approach:

Our Parent & Me class is a safety-first, instructor-led program designed to empower parents with the knowledge, skills and hands-on experience needed to support safe, confident water exposure from the very beginning.

Rooted in the belief that the sooner, the safer, this class focuses on early water familiarity, foundational safety habits and parent education—because drowning remains the leading cause of accidental death for children ages 1-4. By introducing water in a thoughtful, developmentally appropriate way, families can begin building safer relationships with water early on.

This small-group class guides parents through how to support their child safely in the water while building comfort, body awareness and intentional, safety-focused water exposure.

In addition to in-water practice, parents receive ongoing guidance, water safety education and tips they can use at home. Helping the entire family build safer routines around bath time, pools and open water.

By creating consistent, positive experiences with water early on, this program helps build familiarity, reduce fear and lay the groundwork for confident, capable swimmers.

Ages: 4 months - 4+ years

  • Early, supported exposure to water helps children begin building familiarity, comfort and safety-focused habits from the very beginning.

Drowning remains the leading cause of accidental death for children ages 1-4, which is why early water education is so important. In Parent & Me, children are not expected to be independent in the water. Instead, they participate in intentional, safety-focused water exposure alongside a parent or caregiver with direct instructor guidance.

These early, consistent experiences help children become more comfortable with water on the face and ears, learn calm body positioning and begin forming safer habits around water. At the same time, parents gain practical water safety knowledge they can use at home and in real-life situation.

This class is part of one layer of protection, not a replacement for swim lessons, supervision or physical barriers. We believe in multiple layers of protection and education is one of the most important.

Starting early means building a safer foundation for every stage that follows.
